Fall Leaves Paddle and a Cookout on the Spoon River
Saturday, October 20, 2018
DESCRIPTION - We'll paddle the Spoon River from Dahinda, IL to Maquon, IL. The area is in Southern Knox County, 60 miles from Burlington, IA or Moline, IL and 46 miles from Peoria. The Mississippi is still too high from recent flooding. The paddle will be followed by a campfire with tasty fall food included in your registration.
The paddle will be 14.5 river miles which we expect to take 4.5 hours. The route is scenic, high bluffs, old forests. Spoon River drive occurs in this region, and is a regional draw during the fall leaves period. We hope to see changing leaves and wildlife on this paddle. I have paddled this, and it is memorable.

This is a self-paced, easy paddle. Beginners are welcome. This is not a race but a fun, social time to hit the water and meet other paddlers. We will trailer boats from end point to the put in, and our trailers can handle 12' or longer kayaks or canoes.

River gauge levels 7 days prior are about 4.75 depth and under 800 cfm flow. Barring any more deluge rains, we should have a very nice paddling level.

Advance reservation is required so we have a food and shuttle count. Final reservations must be made by 3 PM Friday, so we can pack gear and purchase supplies.

Spoon River paddle route is North of the I74 interstate 5.5 miles, then Southward 9 miles, passing Wolf Covered Bridge, and ending at Cemetary Bridge.

WHAT TO BRING - The forcast is for 50s during the day and 30s over night. For the paddle you should have comfortable clothes and water shoes, including a windbreaker or layers. The put in and take out require some steep climbing - please bring appropriate footware. We recommend a change of clothing and dry shoes just in case you get wet.
